The 2013 spring AKC Hunt Test was held at Rebel Ridge Farm near Elkton, MD. 22 Dogs entered the test and 8 passed. Pirate's Ellie of Churn Creek (Ellie) and D&S Ziva the Total Diva both earned passing scores. Ziva was from our 2011 breeding between Honey x Rough. The picture below shows the setup of the land series as viewed from the line. The videos are filmed from a 15 foot hill located behind the line and slightly to the right. This series consisted of a remote sit (dog standing by itself outside of the holding blind) simulating a hunting situation in which the dog would sit outside the duck blind and watch the birds fall. The double marks included a flyer at about 110 yards and a dead bird at 60 yards. After completing the marks a diversion shot was used and a blind bird was placed about 60 yards away. These are extremely tight marks and the grass was about waist high. The wind was blowing about 15 mph from the right during this test.
The water series consisted of a double mark across the pond. The first bird lands about 65 yards about and the second flyer lands about 115 yards away. A blind bird is placed about 115 yards from the line in which the dog must be handled over the island. A strong 25 mph wind was blowing from the right during this scenario. After completing the marks and blinds, the dogs were required to honor another dog working. I did not film the honor segment because it made the video too long.
Ellie Land Series
As you can see Ellie had trouble marking the second bird. She completely disappeared in the tall grass but took several good casts to get into the area of the fall and find the bird.
Ellie Water Series
Ellie marked both birds and made a perfect line to both.
Ellie Water Blind
Ellie fought the cross wind the entire way and was able to complete this blind without much effort.
Ziva (Honey x Rough 2011 Litter) Land Series
Ziva was clean on this series. She marked both birds and easily completed the land blind.
